If you have visited a few furniture stores lately, looking for a dining table you may have seen a plethora of tables and quickly realized that not all tables are suited for every situation. In fact some of the factors you have to consider before buying a dining table is your family situation.

Consider how many people will be sitting at the table on a regular basis. Then consider how many people you are likely to receive when you entertain, how often do you entertain.

If your family is relatively large or if you enjoy inviting people to your table on weekends you might consider a dining table set that is fairly large and can comfortably sit six to eight people. This is a commonly bought set and it is found in the majority of American homes. It is largely enough for most families, and if you buy extension leaves you will also be able to make it larger for when you have a larger dinner party.

The next option is a smaller dining table set.

Usually it will be a round dining table or a square one, and seats for four people. This type of table is sufficient for smaller families. This kind of set is also practical for kitchens.

If you don’t have children and don’t need a large table or even the medium size table, then you might look at what is commonly called the bistro table. A bistro table set is perfect for couples, and can be placed anywhere. It is small and intimate and will seat two people. It is even possible to use this type of table in a studio and of course it will fit in most any kitchen.

Finally you have another option if none of the previous ideas work for you. You can buy an adjustable table. There are several models that can serve as a coffee table and transform into a dining table when needed. There are also table carts that have a small foot print, but can also store a couple of stools in the cart, when fully open it is a good size table for two.
