Furniture for the breakfast nook is usually sold in sets. That means that you buy the table and the seating options together. They are stained or painted to match and are meant to be used all together. When you start looking at breakfast nook sets, you will find that you can put your options into two broad categories.

First there is corner breakfast nook furniture. Corner breakfast nooks typically include a table, an L-shaped bench, and either chairs or another bench to sit opposite the longer side of the L-shaped bench. The wrap around bench is what fits directly into the corner. There is usually a shelf on top of the corner section of the bench where you can display a picture or hold a vase of flowers. The multi-sectioned bench can be decorated with cushions and throw pillows and the rest of the seating can be decorated to match. Your ability to mix and match chairs and benches with this kind of set gives you greater flexibility in how you will use the furniture. If you only have bench seats then you will probably reserve this area for your family ad very close friends. It can be uncomfortable to ask an acquaintance to sit next to you on a bench. But, if you combine the L-shaped bench with chairs, you can use your corner breakfast nook for entertaining as well.

The second type of breakfast nook set is one that is designed to sit in the middle of the room. It is more common to find chairs with these types of furniture sets, but not mandated. You will find tables of all shapes and sizes. You can find rectangular, square, or round tables. This variety of breakfast nook furniture works better with oddly shaped kitchen nooks. For example, my breakfast nook comes off of my kitchen and looks like half of an octagon. A round table works well in this space.
