Call them what you will, but a narrow console table is one of the most effective types of ‘landing ground’ for all of those items you need to keep by a front door. It doesn’t have to be a catch all for junk either, it can be quite attractive and even offer additional storage for smaller items. However, most of the time, the hallway table is for show. Not just show, but function would be a better way to describe it. In other words, it is a furniture piece of art.
These hall tables can be made of wood or they may be some combination of wood or metal. You can find more modern or custom tables like these made entirely of metal. The style of such tables is such that you can find them to match most any type of home decor. Like with other furniture items, typically wood exudes a warmer, softer tone while metal is a more energetic or modern tone. If it is brushed aluminum or a steel, it can give off a more industrial element or feel. Many homes make use of a combination of themes and styles today. You can achieve a blending of both of these wood and metal elements in your hall table as well. In fact, a wooden top, maybe with a drawer, complemented by some metal legs can make for a very handsome piece.
Just like a hutch in a dining area, the piece needs to look like a fine piece of furniture in its own right for it to have any appeal. You don’t want to simply throw in some cheap sideboard or plain table just to give you a place to throw your keys. If it is wood, it will get damaged over time by this habit anyway. The console table can give you these conveniences, but dress it up. You can add a unique table lamp and a bowl. The bowl could be used to hold your keys, glasses and phone or other items you typically grab on the way out the door. Like all pieces in your home, take pride in the way you decorate, this goes for your convenient hallway tables as well.
