I used to keep all my guns in my gun safe.  This is a very secure, very heavy safe that I had in my basement.  I realized, though that I was constantly going down to open the safe to take out a gun for cleaning, for practice, or to show someone.  I started looking at gun cabinets as a nice way to display my gun collection.  In the process, I found something that was even better, a hidden gun cabinet.

A hidden gun cabinet looks very much like a shelf unit or a curio cabinet.  At first glance it doesn’t look like anything special.  If you look harder, you may notice that it is slightly deeper on the sides that it appears on the shelves.  This is because the cabinet has a false back that slides out after using a key to reveal a gun rack.

  • I love my hidden gun cabinet because it no one, but me would know there are guns stored in this cabinet.  It looks like a piece of furniture.  Any burglar would simply pass it by.
  • My wife was not too excited about me putting a gun cabinet with a big deer head on the glass in her family room.  She had no issues, though with me buying her this nice new shelf unit.  We bought one that matches the wood and color of the rest of the furniture.  It looks like it has been there for years.
  • I love the fact that I no longer need to go down into the basement to grab one of my guns for any reason.  It is also nice way to display my guns to my hunting friends when they come over.  When they leave, I simply push the cabinet back together and neither my wife nor a thief is the wiser!
